In a previous life, aviation was where I developed the skills and mindset that now fuel what I love doing at Wandering EMU - fixing things, solving problems, and bringing equipment back to life with precision and meticulous thought.
With more than 20 years experience as a Licensed Aircraft technician certifying airworthiness certificates (Releasing Aircraft to service) - it was time to hang up the boots and let someone else have a fair go for now. During this amazing career I’ve worked across virtually every area of the maintenance industry: electrical systems, mechanical repairs, avionics and radios, instruments, hydraulics, and engines. From gas turbines to piston engines, and from large commercial aircraft to smaller utility and private aircraft, I’ve had the opportunity to work on an enormous variety of machines in demanding environments.
Aviation also gave me the chance to see a large part of the world. My career gave me the opportunity to travel throughout Australia, Germany, Canada, and across many parts of the South Pacific, including multiple trips into Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Much of this work involved aircraft recovery operations in remote and challenging locations, where resourcefulness and practical problem-solving were often just as important as technical knowledge. I was also fortunate to be involved in several search and rescue operations - experiences that taught me the importance of staying calm under pressure and finding solutions when the stakes were high.
Working in aviation teaches you quickly that there is rarely a one-size-fits-all answer, however precicion, safety and certinty is always key. Every aircraft, every situation, and every repair brings its own challenges. Learning how to think outside the box, adapt to difficult conditions, and find practical solutions has become second nature to me over the years.
Today, those same skills, experiences, and attention to detail are at the heart of everything I do at Wandering EMU. Whether it’s repairing, rebuilding, troubleshooting, or restoring, I genuinely enjoy the challenge of figuring things out and getting your projects working again.
So, if you have read this far, I am Andy, your local fix it guy at Wandering EMU.
